Great House Revival
Adventurous homeowners attempt to restore six derelict properties to their former glory.
Presented by architect Hugh Wallace, this charming series follows six homeowners in Ireland as they try to restore and transform their derelict properties into comfortable homes fit for the 21st century – while saving a piece of the country’s architectural heritage.
Every aspect of the work is documented, from missed deadlines and budgets to battles fought and challenges overcome. Every property is different, and each brings its own unique set of problems for the brave homeowners, for whom every restoration is a personal passion project.
Season One featured stories include a two-room schoolhouse built for functionality, not comfort; a 15th-century crumbling tower house in Cork with no heating, electrics or plumbing; and a Victorian townhouse in Dublin in extreme need of repair, with a homeowner who has no budget or skills to fix it himself – yet!
Season Two featured stories include an abandoned Georgian town house in Dublin, farm buildings in Carlow dating back to 1790, a former boarding school in the center of Westport Co. Mayo, and a stately home built during the Great Famine in Castletown Geoghan in Westmeath.
