The Girl In The Water

The Girl in the Water is a documentary that follows the family of Kelly Marie Lynch, a 23‑year‑old woman whose body was discovered beneath Horseshoe Bridge in Co. Monaghan on St Patrick’s Day 2024. The film traces Kelly’s final known movements, the 30‑hour period in which she went missing and the deeply unsettling questions that emerged after her death.

The documentary centres on the Lynch family’s search for clarity. What begins as a tragic loss becomes a complex and troubling investigation: three separate post‑mortem opinions point to drowning, hypothermia and finally the possibility of fatal injuries consistent with an assault. The film lays out these contradictions plainly, highlighting the gaps in the official response including the absence of the police technical personnel at the scene and the puzzling condition of Kelly’s phone, found intact in her hand despite being submerged.

As the family retraces events and presses for answers, the documentary reveals a portrait of grief sharpened by uncertainty. It shows their determination to understand what happened in Kelly’s final hours and their growing belief that crucial evidence may have been missed. Through interviews, reconstruction, and careful reporting, The Girl in the Water becomes both a memorial and a call for accountability, inviting viewers to confront the unresolved questions surrounding Kelly’s death.
