RTÉ & VIP SELL OPERATION TRANSFORMATION TO WALES

RTÉ Programme Sales & Vision Independent Productions have closed aformat deal with Cwmni Da Production Company for its multiplatform seriesOperation Transformationwho will produce the series for Welsh language broadcaster S4C.

Under the deal, Cwmni Da will produce an8 x60'series ofthe Irish public broadcaster'sflagship health-and-fitness makeover show for Welsh-language public-service broadcaster S4C. The Welsh remakehas the backing ofWelsh Government, Public Health Wales, Sports Wales, the Football Association of Wales (FAW), mental-health charity MIND, Bangor University, and Parkrun UK. It will debut on S4C on April 10 in a Tuesday-night primetime slot.

Operation Transformation, a 360-degree project that spans television, radio and online, sees a fitness instructor, dietician and psychologist develop a plan for the five participants in the show and viewers are encouraged to choose a person in the series most like them and follow their daily plan and track their progress with the show.

Grainne McAleer, RTÉ's head of lifestyle, who has been commissioning Operation Transformation since the show debuted in 2008, said: “Over the past 10 years, Operation Transformation has made a positive contribution to health awareness in Ireland, and we are confident it will give an equally positive message to our Welsh cousins. It's not a quick fix and it doesn't magically transform people's lives in eight weeks. Rather, it's a springboard to healthier approach to food, lifestyle and self-esteem.”

Vision Independent Productions (VIP), producer of the RTÉ series and co-owner of the format IP, is advising Cwmni Da on the Welsh adaptation, which will closely resemble the Irish original both in editorial structure and visual presentation.

Operation Transformation began its 11th season on RTÉ One in January. The 2018 series features a range of high-profile events, including Ireland Lights Up, an initiative with the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) to make walking safer and more accessible; 15 new 10@10 workouts for primary schools; nationwide walks; a 5K run and the Operation Transformation Awards, which recognise the individuals and businesses who have contributed to a healthier Ireland.
