RTÉ fields Format Farm show
Irish pubcaster RTÉ has commissioned local indie Coco Television to produce a family entertainment series born out of its Format Farm initiative.
Whose Holiday Is It Anyway? (6×30′) will air on RTÉ One in mid-November having been piloted alongside four other format ideas in December last year.
The show sees responsibility for the family holiday handed over to the kids, who are given a €3,000 (US$4,100) budget and tasked with choosing the location and booking accommodation.
The Format Farm initiative, which launched in 2012, sees RTÉ commission five original pilots from Irish indies, which are then aired on the public broadcaster to test their market appeal.
Whose Holiday Is It Anyway? was the highest rating pilot with a 28.2% share. Coco Television, whose credits also include the Irish version of Don't Tell the Bride, will now produce a full series based on the format. DRG is handling international distribution.
RTÉ Global, the commercial arm of the Irish pubcaster, said that three other pilots tested last year – The Speech, Away With a Stranger and The Give or Take Club – are also “likely” to go to series.
Tonyia Dowling, head of format development at RTÉ, said: “The core mission of Format Farm is to support and foster innovation in the Irish television industry by helping great producers like Coco Television to create local hits that can go on to become international success stories.”
