RTÉ harvests The Hit

Irish broadcaster RTÉ is moving another successful pilot from its ‘Format Farm' to series with a premiere scheduled for this summer.

The Hit is a music competition show that gives budding songwriters a chance to have chart success with an established star and will air on RTÉ One.

It was created by Vision Independent Productions with backing from RTÉ and Warner Bros International Television Production, which will launch the format at MipTV next month.

The show sees songwriters pitch their work to stars of the music business who must pick the song they like best and compete against each other to turn it into a hit. At the end of the show two songs are released for download and the audience decides which one wins.

The programme began as a pilot broadcast on RTÉ last September. The idea was developed by the broadcaster's Format Farm, a content development scheme relaunched last year to provide funding and support to Irish indies for original productions
