RTÉ names channel controllers

Irish broadcaster RTÉ has taken a senior exec from the UK's Channel 4 to be its new controller of RTÉ One, and promoted from within to fill the equivalent position at RTÉ Two.

George Dixon will take up the RTÉ One position having left UK terrestrial C4 where he had been the controller of channel management since 2011.

Bill Malone will take control of RTÉ Two, a promotion from the commissioning editor for entertainment position he'd held with RTÉ Television for the past two years.

At C4, Dixon oversaw scheduling, commissioning strategy and acquisitions across the broadcaster's portfolio of channels and digital services.

Previously he was head of scheduling at BBC Vision for five years with specific responsibility for the scheduling strategy on BBC1.

Malone previously managed RTÉ's slate of in-house commissioned programmes including The Late Late Show, The Voice of Ireland and Mrs Brown's Boys.

Both will report to RTÉ MD Glen Killane. The newly created roles will be responsible for strategy across the linear and digital platforms for their channels.
